Platinum Horizon Straight Stairlift
- Horizon stairlift is tailored to user needs.
- Quick, mess-free installation on straight staircases.
If you have a straight staircase then we have the right straight stair lift for you!
Straight stairlifts are the cheapest staircase to install a stair lift on because, unlike curved staircases, the stair lift can just travel in a straight line and doesn't need any made-to-measure bends in the track to accommodate any curves. For curved staircases you would need a curved stairlift.
For straight staircases where there are stairs in a straight line and then a turn with one step, we can fit a straight stairlift on these stairs, or you could opt for curved stair lifts.
As we are an independent supplier, we have models to suit all stair types, even narrow staircases. For the maximum comfort of the individual user, we tailor all straight stair lifts to the individual user and their home environment.
We offer a free home survey to determine which stair lift model is best from our range and we will independently measure your stairs and tailor the best straight stairlift to your needs. We can include any additional features you may need on the straight stairlift so that you, the user, experiences maximum comfort and safety and that the stairlift will fit neatly into your home.
If you have a split staircase, fan-shaped stairs, or quarter landings, then normally a curved stairlift would be recommended. You can view our full range of curved stairlift models {here}.
A straight stair lift stop is at the top and bottom of the rail. At the top of the straight stairs the footrest will stop level with the top step and the chair will turn so you can easily get off. If you want the stair lifts to go up and over onto the landing (i.e. there is a bend in the track to go up the straight stair and then bend to go onto the landing) then you would need to consider curved stair lifts.
Although stairlift models will differ technically and visually, they mostly all have standard features that most suppliers have but here are the key things you need to know! They all have:
Straight stairlift tracks that always fit to the stairs and not the wall.
Swivel seats that are operated by a lever that unlocks and turns the chair at the top of the stairs for safety purposes. You turn the chair like you would an office chair. To use the straight chair lift again you can bring it safely around to its original position to come down the stairs.
Upholstered padded seats in a standard or a choice of upholstery colours depending on model.
Joystick control on the chair arm using constant pressure to drive the lift up and down.
Remote controls where a second user needs to operate the stairlift if two people need to call/send the stairlift to each other. Remote controls can also be used as carer controls if the user is unable to independently operate the stair lifts themselves.
Safety sensors around the footplate and carriage so the safety sensors enable the stairlift to stop if it meets an obstruction or trapping hazard.
Secure safety belt to be worn in travel.
Digital displays which some suppliers offer on their models that give further information on the stairlifts status. Digital displays will show a symbol code, picture, or number that can be cross-referenced in your user manual to check on the status.
Slimline designs with folding footrest, seat base and arms to fold the straight stairlift up neatly for others walking up the stairs to easily pass.
Battery operation that works in a power cut with automatic recharging. Read our article the Ultimate Guide to Stairlift Batteries
A standard weight capacity that varies by model but many suppliers models are between 18-23 stone, but some suppliers offer increased weight capacity models.
There are many optional extras that you can get on stairlifts to make them easier for you to use or fit into your home environment. These stairlift options can include:
Powered swivel seats that automatically turn the chair at the top of the stairs by keeping the joystick pressed. No levers to operate and the automatic motor does all the hard work for you. Good if you have limited dexterity, shoulder problems, or leg mobility to turn the chair.
Powered foot plates where if you need to fold the straight stair lift up and cannot reach down to the floor to fold in the footplate by hand. The powered footplate can be folded in effortlessly at the touch of a button.
Powered hinged tracks where there is an open hallway or doorway at the bottom of the stairs and a straight solid rail will inhibit use. The lower section of the track will fold up allowing access to the door or hall.

We will only recommend features that we think you will need on a straight stair lift so you can use it safely.
A power point is needed nearby to power the lift; if you don’t have one, we can organise this for you at an additional cost.
Also if you have a "disabling health condition" you will qualify for VAT exemption and won't have to pay VAT on the cost of straight stair lifts.
