Wessex Homelifts

VM & VE Through-Floor Lifts from an Independent Wessex Dealer

If your stairs are becoming difficult to manage, a Wessex home lift can make everyday life safer and more comfortable — without having to move home.

Wessex lifts are well known across the UK for their solid engineering, reliability, and accessibility-led design. They’re a popular choice for people who need mobility solutions, to help them travel between floors, often a wheelchair user, or a wheelchair user and their carer.

As an independent Wessex lift dealer, 1st Choice Homelifts supplies, installs, and maintains the Wessex VM and Wessex VE through-floor lifts, managing everything from the first survey through to installation and long-term aftercare. We also supply Wessex’s external and internal step lift range, including the SP and LR models, where required, for wheelchair access inside and outside the home, or in public buildings.

Why choose a Wessex Home Lift?

Wessex Lifts has built a strong reputation for designing reliable, British-engineered lifting solutions that focus on safety, strength and everyday usability.

Made locally in Hampshire, these home lifts have been made for home accessibility to be a practical way to get up and down the stairs instead of a stair lift. If you have difficulty transferring onto a stairlift seat or prefer to stay in your wheelchair to move between floors, then this lift is for you.

Wessex Through-Floor Lifts – VM & VE Models

At 1st Choice Homelifts, we focus on the Wessex VM and Wessex VE, both designed specifically for domestic use and travel between two floors.

These lifts move through an aperture or hole that's created in the ceiling for the lift to move through, and park neatly at floor level when not in use, keeping your living space practical and usable.

All Wessex homelift models are hydraulic, meaning that you will need a position for a hydraulic pump next to the lift or on the other side of a wall outside. The guide rails that the lifts run on are positioned neatly at the back of the lift near a wall and don't encroach on the space in your rooms when the lift is parked on the opposite floor.

Controls are positioned inside the lift for independent use, and also wall controls are provided should you need additional carer support.

Wessex VM Home Lift – Strong, Simple & Dependable

The Wessex VM is one of the most popular and widely installed through-floor home lifts in the UK and has been for many years, without a change in the design. It is designed for one person in a wheelchair or one person seated on an optional fold-down seat. Because it is not fully enclosed and has open sides at the top of the car, you must be seated for travel. The VM comes in various platform sizes and can accommodate most wheelchair sizes, which makes it very versatile and suitable for most homes, meeting more customer requirements.

Wessex VE Home Lift – Compact & Versatile

The Wessex VE is the enclosed lift option, which means it is perfect if you are a wheelchair user, want a lift you can stand in, or even get two people inside it (including a wheelchair user and carer) to travel between floors. Like the VM model, it also comes in various platform sizes to accommodate a wheelchair and the space you have available. The VE travels vertically between two floors and can be positioned in a variety of locations depending on your home layout, making it a flexible solution where space is more limited.

Experience a Fully Managed Hassle-free Installation

When you choose 1st Choice Homelifts, you’re not just buying a lift; you’re choosing a team that really cares about giving you access to your whole house and will manage the entire process for you.

It starts with a free, no-obligation home survey where we can assess your home to see where the lift will be best placed. We'll also assess you and your wheelchair, if you have one, to make sure the lift can accommodate your needs and will be easy for you to use.

We'll also identify the building works that are needed. There will be a hole to cut in the ceiling, and the floor above for the lift to travel through the floor, and the floor itself is strengthened. There may also be pipes in the floor that need re-routing. We'll also need power nearby to power the lift, too. A full specification of the works will be made. On occasion, when the floor is lifted, it may be that there is unforeseen work to do in extreme circumstances, but should this happen, we will communicate with you regarding further work.

Once ordered, we can organise our approved contractors to undertake the preparation work, which can take a couple of days or longer if the job is more complex. The lift can then be installed by our engineers in a couple of days. The project is all managed by us, so we can coordinate everything for you, making the process hassle-free.

As 5* endorsed Which? Trusted Traders and members of the British Healthcare Trades Association, we focus on doing things properly throughout the process of specifying a lift, through the installation, and looking after you ongoing.

Ongoing Servicing, Maintenance & Support

A home lift should give you confidence for years to come — and good aftercare is a big part of that. We provide ongoing servicing and maintenance whenever you need us. Your Wessex homelift would need to be serviced twice a year, and so you would need to factor this into the cost of ownership.

All models come with a 12 month manufacturers warranty, and once the warranty has expired, you will go onto our regular service and maintenance schedule, where you can book an appointment for our service engineer to attend when due. If you ever need a routine repair, we are here to help.

Our local engineers are trained on the Wessex products by the manufacturer, and you can be assured of an excellent service and high standard of workmanship.

Why Buy a Wessex Lift from an Independent Lift Company?

As an independent lift company, we’re not tied to just one manufacturer, so we can provide you with the best assessment, advice, and product that will suit your needs and your home. With over 20 years of expertise in stairlifts, homelifts, and wheelchair lifts, you can be assured that you are in the safest of hands. We’ll explain your options clearly, in plain English, and help you choose the most practical and appropriate solution for your home and your future.

We are supported by all our manufacturers and are authorised to sell and work on their products.

How Much Do Wessex Home Lifts Cost?

The cost of a Wessex home lift varies depending on the model and the platform size you will need. There are also other optional features that can add to the cost. Prices can typically start from £13,500+ depending on specification.

There's also the building work to take into account too, which can only be priced on a site visit so we can take in all your requirements.

A free home survey allows us to give you an accurate, written quotation with no obligation and no pressure.
