Celebrating 15 Years in Business

Over 4,500 stairlifts and still growing strong!

1^st Choice Stairlifts celebrated their 15th year in business in February 2019.  Based on Porte Marsh Industrial Estate in Calne, we started the company in 2004 and that year were winners of the Calne and the North Wiltshire New Business Award competitions.  We then also more recently won Calne’s Retailer of the Year for Porte Marsh in 2018.  15 years on, we are still growing strong having just had our best trading year yet.

The family run firm is headed by husband and wife team Coral and Colin Major, who together have over 50 years of stairlift expertise, having both worked for the manufacturers before setting up 1^st Choice Stairlifts.  They now employ 15 members of staff in their office and on the road covering Wiltshire, Swindon, Bath, Somerset, Bristol, Hampshire, Gloucestershire and Berkshire.

Director Coral said “We started the company because we felt that we could give customers a better, more local service to help people use the stairs safely and live independently in the home they love.  In 15 years we’ve installed over 4,500 lifts and maintain around 4,000 lifts a year, making a difference to customers quality of life – the ultimate in job satisfaction for us.

The fact that most of our business comes from personal recommendation is also a testament to the wonderful team of staff that we have working for us, doing an amazing job every day.”

1^st Choice Stairlifts have grown to be one of the biggest and most successful stairlift retailers in the UK, but they still retain that personal service to customers.  We provide an independent choice of stairlift and Home Lift brands and their team of engineers install, repair, service and remove a range of lift models.
