Dolphin Care Stairlifts was formed in 2001 by the original co-founder of the Dolphin Stairlifts group and franchises, Mr John Austin. The company supplies, installs and maintains a range of stairlift equipment in the Dorset, Hampshire and south Wiltshire areas.
The company was sold due to owner John’s retirement, having spent over 40 years in the lift industry.
Like Dolphin Care Stairlifts, 1st Choice Stairlifts have a similar business of installing and maintaining stairlifts, homelifts and wheelchair lifts, but covering a wider area with a larger customer base, operating in both the local authority and private sectors.
Dolphin Care Stairlifts customers have now been merged into 1st Choice Stairlifts, so the company can expand it’s market share and trade under one name.
As a result of the acquisition, 1st Choice Stairlifts now have a new branch in Nimrod Way, on the Ferndown Industrial Estate with a new office and a showroom coming soon.

Having been life-long friends with John, he felt we were naturally the best people to look after his customers and staff so he could leave the business in very capable hands to enjoy his retirement. John has worked tirelessly in the stairlift industry for many years and we wish him all the very best for his retirement.”
He added “Taking on Dolphin Care Stairlifts means that we can widen our coverage area and expand our customer base. We are also looking forward to welcoming existing customers to the new 1st Choice Stairlifts Dorset branch as well as expanding with new customers.”
1st Choice Stairlifts headquarters are based in Calne in Wiltshire and the company recently celebrated their 20th year in business, owned by Colin Major and Coral Affleck Major who have over 65 years of stairlift industry expertise between them. More details can be found on the company’s website.
