CELEBRATING 21 YEARS OF STAIRLIFTS

Time flies when you are having fun and for 1st Choice Stairlifts Director Colin Major, it seems like only yesterday since he started in the stairlift industry.  Twenty-one years later he is still enjoying the challenges of the job!

Colin began his career in the stairlift industry working for Stannah Stairlifts.  Colin says, “I got into the stairlift industry completely by accident.    The company I worked for was making redundancies and someone I knew, who’s wife worked at Stannah, told me that they were recruiting.  I went for the job and I got it!”

Colin enjoyed many jobs at Stannah, firstly travelling the UK installing stairlifts and then moving onto managing the UK and Worldwide exhibitions.  In the later years Colin also provided Worldwide technical support, training dealers on the assessment, survey, installation and maintenance of stairlifts. 

After 15 years at Stannah, Colin decided to leave and worked for an independent stairlift company for two years before setting up 1st Choice Stairlifts with Coral.

Since then 1^st Choice Stairlifts has continued to grow rapidly beyond expectation – thanks to the good products, great service, wonderful staff and our lovely customers. We have three additional new members of staff who have joined us in the past six months, a refreshing change to the doom and gloom of the credit crunch. 

Colin said “We are delighted with the amazing success we have had.  We have a brilliant team of staff, and have set high standards for our staff to continue to provide unrivalled quality and service, that we have built our business on.”

Colin added “To prove our commitment to quality the company has just been awarded ISO 9001 Certification for our Quality Management Systems.” 

How about the next 21 years?  Colin says “By then I should be coming up for retirement and might even have my own stairlift installed!  Who knows, there may be a future generation coming through to take over the reigns by then.  But despite 21 years, I still do love my job.  I get great satisfaction from giving someone their independence back and getting them up and down the stairs.”
